I don't think so but NEC has already 4x DVD+R writers in the Japanese and US market. I with my friends am trying to buy 9 units on 17 or 18. (We have tried only Pioneer DVR-A05 and Sony DRU-500A so far.)

Read Ian's review of the Sony DRU-500A and that should help you decide on whether its worth it to buy it or not. Personally, I would wait until the newer NEC drives hit the U.S. Then we could have a better comparison between the two drives and see which one better suits your needs.

Well you can play the waiting game if you like. Personally I would buy the Sony drive. It is available at discount stores and any bugs in it have mostly come to light and are being worked on. We waited and waited for the first 4X drives, now that they are here we are waiting for the next vendors product, etc. At some point you got to jump into the fray or forget the project. You can spend your life waiting. I have both the A05 and the Sony, both have their problems but I have been able to work around them and the drives are doing what I bought them to do. But for the record I prefer the Sony over the A05.

Good luck with your decision.........
Have fun.........Bob
