PX-708A 8x Burning Slow-Down

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

Postby aviationwiz on Mon Oct 06, 2003 12:18 am

I just did some Math and figured out that the drive reaches the 8x write speed at about 865MB. For the record, my past two burns at 8x using Memorex 4x (RICOHJPNR01) did not have any slow-down at all. Both disks finished in about 7:15.

Some batches of the Memorex 4X +R contain discs that slow to 4X at the 50% mark with fw 1.01, using BOTH Nero and Stomp.

I don't know if the Quality control of the discs is lacking or the 1.01 firmware is very sensitive to differences in media, or a combination...

Not yet MadBurner, but I will when I get home...
Thanks for the info and link!

The timing couldn't be better, since the 2nd 708A I ordered (for my other PC) late last week is arriving today.

Just got home. Had to run a quick errand.
Almost had a heart attack when the "check engine" light in my low mileage car, which I am trading in or selling soon, came on.
I couldn't believe it, since I had a deal with a VW dealer, who later
changed the trade-in value dramatically.
Anyway, I looked at the car owner's manual, and one of the possdible reasons was a loose gas cap.
Sure enough, the gas cap hadn't been turned enough to click- negligent gas station attendant I suppose.I started the engine again, and the light still came on. I checked under the hood; everything seemed fine.
I started the engine again, knowing that the warning might need some time to reset itself, by checking the fuel pressure (or whatever exactly was wrong while the cap was loose); sure enough all was well.
The light did NOT come on again.

I just didn't want to pay for a potentially very costly repair on a car I plan to trade or sell VERY soon.

Anyway, now that the car is fine, it is time to install the new Plex and install the firmware on one of them.

Still Problems with Firmware 1.02

Postby eSpy on Tue Oct 07, 2003 5:04 pm

Hi,

ich use PX-708A/FW 1.02 and Nero 6.0.0.11. The PX-708A works perfect. But I've still 1 problem: I need 20 Min for 1 DVD-Video. I use Verbatim DVD+R 4x. I selected 8x speed. Some guys talk of 7-8 Min - sorry, that's amazing. ;o((
Can anybody help me.

Try to enable DMA on your DVD drive (and hard drive if necessary).
That could be the reason for the slow burns.

Is you buffer in Nero frequently dropping all the way down to 0% or close?

@VEFF - THX for your Help.
But I've enabled the DMA. The Nero buffer is between 80%-100%.
I've never had such problems with my NEC 1300A. ;o((.
