Is 52x The Fastest Speed For CD-ROM?

There are some 56X CD-ROM drives and even 72X CD-ROM drives by Kenwood. Although the Kenwood 72X drives have been out of production for a while.

EPO has a 58x CD-ROM.

yeah, but it's a flimsy peace of crap... and performs worse than some 48x drives... :roll:

how does multiple beams make it go faster (72x)? I thought it was how fast it spins.. 8)

Multiple beams are reading data simultaneously so rpms can be much lower but maintain throughput. The number of lasers more than makes up for the lost RPM speed.

so why don't they just have 5 lasers in a cd burner so it can burn cd's at faster speeds?

They were working on something along those lines but it was too little too late with DVD writers becoming mainstream.

why would they stop makin faster cd burners cuz dvd-rw if no one buys them
