LG 4040B Help....PLEASE!!!!

Postby jberry on Tue Sep 09, 2003 11:26 pm

Just picked up this DVD Writer and love it!!!! No problem with Maxell -r's so far.

BIG PROBLEM with XP though.

I have two hard drives, c and d. After installing the 4040, it has become d with my other LG CDROM/DVDROM becoming e. My second hard drive is now F. I have tried uninstalling the 4040 and the CDROM/DVDROM. I can then go into disk management and change the f drive to d. But when I reboot everything reverts (as XP now sees the 4040 and CDROM/DVD writer). Drive D is now F again (and some progs are not working). How can if fix this? Anyone experienced this?

Thanks for any help.

Which IDE channels and positions (master or slave) are your drives on?

you have to change the drive letters through the admin tools in the control panel, not by uninstalling the drive. I'm at university right now so I can't post the steps required right now. This evening if you have't already figured it out, I can walk you through.

If you have apps installed on the second drive. I'd watch it, you can bork things if you start swapping drive letters around.

Which is exactly why he wants to put the drive letters to what they were before he installed burner.

@jberry
What you have to do is to swap the drive letters in Disc Management(which I see you know about because I re-read your post) without uninstalling anything. You want the current F drive to be D. So rename D to any letter that is not in use. That will free up D. Rename the F drive to D. Now rename the drive you changed from D to whatever letter u want...presumably F.
